Thinking back to the black and white business card the gentleman at the foresthill farmers market showed me I started thinking of how I could make a business card for Rosa that would be cheap, simple, but unique. I have this idea of maybe using a thin paper that will fold over like a card and have her logo and information on it but when you open it up there will be space for Rosa and her sister to wright thing down in. That way if she is talking to someone and informs them about something she can go, "Here let me wright that down for you" and make a note for them but also give them her information at the same time. Printing it on craft paper would give it a awesome look to!

10 Tips on How to Create Great Packaging Designs

I found this link with some great tips for packaging design and made a info-graphic of it for my self!

Modern Design for Rosa?

After thinking more and more about why do Farmers market stands get pinned with a certain look I went ahead and made some logo ideas for what I would do if I was making a modern look for Rosa

I should have posted this sooner but this was my initial reactions after meeting Rosa and her sister. Looking at it again and hearing my initial reactions I want to bring in some of thoughts thoughts. The uglier cucumber is still something that sicks with me. Maybe I can make a line of bags that have funny captions on them like "The uglier the cucumber the better it tastes" and "The squash shouldn't squish"
"Red peppers are red hot!". It can bring in Rosa's personality and brighten up peoples days.

Interview with Farmers

After I interviewed John I went and interviewed some of the farmers market stand owners so that I could get the thoughts of the other side. I walked around and talked to several people at the forest hill farmers market.

What do you think you would need design wise to make your stand successful?

I would say that my business card I have are important and my signs. I have been hoping to get some care decals to for my truck so people can see me while I drive around, maybe put my facebook on there to so people can look a me up.

After talking to him I asked to see his business card and he handed me a simple black and white business card with his name and phone number and facebook on it.  He told me that he got them from kinkos and made them him self.

Would you be open to modern design for you stand?

I suppose so I would have to see it. I like the thought of having a nice looking apple with some bright colors and modern text.

Would you consider a logo with out food in it?

I don't know about that I want people to know what my business is by looking at my logo.

I think that I am right to move forward with the design I have started. I want to make a great business card for Rosa though something with color and that is fresh and unique so it does stand out from the black and white blah ones.

Interview with John

I decided to conduct some interviews and one was with a designer named John. He is a professor at VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University) in the graphic design department as well.

What pieces of design do you think are majorly important for small business owners to get their name out?

Well I am always a fan of posters they are a art that can say a little or a lot, what ever you need. Now most people will probably say business cards, web site, lots of color the basics but sometimes you just need to so something weird that people will stop to look at a business card can be thrown away but something that sticks to your mind can't.

How would you go about designing something based on food?

I would say fresh colors probably something clean so that it looks appetizing.

How would you go about designing something for a farmers market stand?

Now the initial go to is something that is based around food or home made mom and pop kinda stuff, but why is that? I don't think that successful design for a farmers market stand should be the same as everyone else. There is a certain look that all these stands have but why does it have to be that way? Why can't a farmers market stand have something completely different like swiss inspired bright solid colors. Why does the logo have to have a farm or a bundle of fresh fruit? Why can't it be a hexagon or some strange swoosh?

Do you think that a person who owns a farmers market stand would go for something like that?

You would have to find the right person for sure. The majority of people are afraid to be different but if you can explain that this would be the best way to go and explain why it would work, imagine how cool a midcentury modern farmers market stand would look. That would get a lot of business.

After talking to John I realized that I had pinned Rosa with a "Farmers Market" look. I think that John is absolutely right. A stand that is a complete 180 from the norm would be so cool but I'm not sure if that would be right for Rosa. Rosa is more traditional and I think I will continue the design I have now but I hope that I can find the right person to make a mid century modern farmers marked look for.

First Sketches for Rosa's Farming Goods

Rough Logo

I have started working on some of the elements of the new image I am working on for Rosa's Farming Goods. I want a look that is home made but modern looking. Something fun that doesn't take it's personality to serious just like Rosa and Evelyn. Above I have a first round turn out of a potential identity mark.

Sketches

I would like to keep sketching and see where the inspiration I have gotten from the personality of this stand has given me.
